Courses Booking Information

Details of up and coming courses can be found on the Cadet Portal as well as on the unit’s Facebook page. Some times courses will also be published on the District or Area Facebook pages as well although all of these courses will also be on the Cadet Portal.

Some courses are run be individual Areas and Districts meaning that only cadets from those Areas or Districts are able to attend those courses. For information – Swansea unit is in West Wales District and South West Area.

Booking on a Course

In order to book on to a course, cadets will need to speak a member of staff at the unit. Most uniformed staff can book cadets on to a course and if they can’t, they will find somebody who can. PO Davies is usually in the Admin Office at the end of a parade night and is able to book courses.

In order to make things easier for the person booking the course please make sure that you know the name of the course, the dates and the location. Some courses will have a Westminster code – if you have that then it makes it a look easier to book on the course.

Once a cadet is booked on to a course, they are given a course consent form, this needs to be signed by a parent/guardian. If the course is during the school term, the school will also need to sign the form. Schools are very supportive of the cadets and most will mark cadets attending a training course as educated off site and not count the absence as a holiday. Once the form has been signed it needs to be returned to the unit.

Paying for Courses

Courses have to be paid for directly to the Sea Cadets Courses Office. When a cadet has been accepted on a course the Next of Kin, as listed on Westminster, will be sent an email with payment details. Please make sure that your email address is kept up to date and that you are regularly checking this email.

The Sea Cadets run a bursary scheme to help with the cost of courses. Details of bursaries will be available with the request for payment.

Travel to Courses and Events

For local courses (Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and East Carmarthenshire) cadets will need to make their own travel arrangements. For courses further afield travel will be be organised. This may be traveling with another unit by minibus or coach. Travel to some courses will be by train. Tickets and times will be provided to cadets. It is possible that cadets will be traveling without a member of staff from the unit and, in the case of the train, with no members of staff. Please bare this in mind when looking for courses.

Joining Instructions

Before the start of the course you will be given the Joining Instructions. These will list everything you need to take on the course, uniform, any taskbooks, logbooks or special equipment you need to take and the arrangements if you are traveling by train.
